Frame of Reference -

unpluggedA friend of mine posted a note on Facebook recently that he was changing his cable/internet provider, but was going to be ‘off-line’ for a few weeks.  He said, “Today I returned my modem.  Returned my modem?  Seems that could be a new slang for ending a relationship.  ‘I called my boss and returned my modem’.  Or ‘I returned the modem to my wife’.  Or ‘take this modem and…’”

reminderIt occurred to me that our language and references have changed in this electronic and digital age.  For instance, when I have trouble recalling a name or piece of information – what I used to call a senior moment - I tell people “my hard drive is full and it takes longer to retrieve the information.”

I’ve heard others talk about being 1 byte short of a Meg, or feeling like 4G running on rotary.Rotary vs. cell

Can you think of other phrases we use that wouldn’t have made sense years ago?

It’s either too early or my hard drive is full but you can bet I’ll be thinking about it the rest of the day! Last night Terry and I drove past the empty building where Capital Blueprint used to be. He mentioned how technology had brought an end to that line of work. Fun post.
