Just For Fun Friday 02/07/2014

Blog, Blog, Blog

In my very first post, “never once considering…” I blogged about deciding to create a blog. I talked about checking out bloggers on blogging and getting advice from others. blogging

Well, I think I over-did it!

Every time I found a site with good information, I bookmarked it and subscribed. If I found a blog in a style I appreciated, I bookmarked it and subscribed. I found several that concentrated on weekly activities using prompts, so I bookmarked and subscribed.

Oh dear! Now I get about 10 notifications a day.  Since I have a ‘day job’, they back up and I use my weekends to catch up. This is definitely too much of a good thing. How do others keep up with all that?

pick me handsOver the past couple weeks I have been identifying those that have particular value and interest. I’ve also been noting which ones I set aside to read later, but don’t, and the blogs concentrating on writing activities I don’t have time to participate in.

good-byeThis weekend I’ll be saying goodbye to some  new ‘friends’ that I just haven’t committed to. A few will get discarded because the information they give is for bloggers and/or writers who are more advanced than I am at this time. And as I decide on these eliminations, I am painfully aware that somewhere out there my blog may be undergoing the same scrutiny. I understand.

Be assured that I’ll check back now and then to see if I need to re-subscribe.  Also, I want to let you know I’ve enjoyed each of you - I just have to trim down the list. I’m hoping when I complete this task my in-box won’t be so crowded each day, I can give each of the remaining sites the attention they deserve, and I can respond to my friends’ blogs better because I will have time to reflect on their messages.

In a couple weeks, I’m going to tackle the rest of the mail that overflows, and start marking those that refuse my ‘unsubscribe’ orders as Spam. Spam

Yahoo will hate me – there are a lot of them!

I had the impression that your Just For Fun Friday was going to be just that: something funny/fun to read/short/pithy. But you’re really doing two blogs per week–one on Tues., one on Friday. Like the days of my early piano lessons. Just sayin’.

Ah, Pat – I wondered when someone would call me out on that. I intended for it to be FUN FRIDAY, but haven’t been in a fun mood for a while. Got to get back to the true intention…promise!!! ( besides, if I have two serious blogs a week, I’ll run out of subjects!)

I have the same problem…I started using unroll.me for email. It’s wonderful as everything is presented in one nice little email. I can scroll through, read what I want, and move on. Keeps my inbox less cluttered.

Never heard of that, Talya! Thanks – I’ll check it out. Could be a great solution.

I sympathize and I don’t have a “day job”. There are many good blogs, but one person can only read so many, which should make us all feel better if people don’t subscribe to or read ours regularly, too. I always enjoy yours.
