You know those quizzes that ask, “What kind of animal would you be?”
I always answer that I’m a spoiled housecat. I am. I know I am. I’m lazy. I like to eat, sleep, and be cuddled. I only wish I could purr. What’s more to know?
Well, an article on medicaldaily.com confirms my theory. It’s about goosebumps. What do goosebumps have to do with being a cat? EVERYTHING!
We get goosebumps for the same reason that a cat’s fur fluffs up when it’s startled or angry. In fur-bearing animals, the muscles around each hair contract and cause shallow depressions, so that the hair stands on end.
“In animals with a thick hair coat, this response serves any number of purposes…. say, a cat being attacked by a bigger feline, the raised hair, together with an arched back, makes the cat appear bigger and scarier to a predator. Threatened equals threatening, courtesy of a little biophysiology.” http://www.medicaldaily.com/got-goosebumps-why-stress-responses-can-cause-your-hair-stand-end-328544http://
The article goes on to explain in more detail about this being a defense against cold, and other things. But humans don’t have fur, so the small hair follicles that we do have stand up. Goosebumps!
So…I’m lazy. I eat and sleep and cuddle. I WANT to purr. And I get goosebumps when I’m cold or scared. I’m very moody, too.
Love this. . .cats are something else, right??? Hope all’s well in your world – going to Lucidity?
Yes ma’am. I am! See you there!
